Video of the Sound BlasterX Katana as a soundbar with a LED TV

The audio output of the LED TV is through a S/PDIF connection to the Sound BlasterX Katana.

The Sound BlasterX Katana is a 2.1 channel soundbar. The subwoofer is connected to the main speakers through a cable and the cable is approximately 2 metres or 6.5 feet long.

It is able to output audio in virtual surround, 5.1 virtual surround when playing a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio and 7.1 virtual surround when connected to a Windows computer through a USB connection.

The video above shows the Sound BlasterX Katana playing audio from a TV outputting Dolby Digital and PCM audio signals through a S/PDIF connection.

To get Dolby Digital to work on the Sound BlasterX Katana, it depends on whether the videos on the TV contains the Dolby Digital audio signals and whether the TV supports the output of Dolby Digital audio signals through its S/PDIF output.

Kudos to the people who designed and engineered the Sound BlasterX Katana.

Although the Sound BlasterX Katana was not designed to be a soundbar for TV, it is the closest product that Creative has other than the Creative X-Fi Sonic Carrier for TV.

The advantages it has are BlasterX Acoustic Engine effects applied even without being connected to a computer, ability to save custom BlasterX Acoustic Engine effects and equalizer settings as profiles and a slim profile.

Although the subwoofer is not wireless, there are advantages to having a wired subwoofer as well. If a user is going to place the subwoofer near to the soundbar, there is no need for an extra power socket to power it.

The cable length of the subwoofer is approximately 2 meters or 6.56 feet.

The disadvantage of the Sound BlasterX Katana is that its volume cannot be adjusted using the remote of the TV. The Sound BlasterX Katana includes a remote control to adjust its volume.

Re: Video of the Sound BlasterX Katana as a soundbar with a LED TV

There is a new firmware released on 28 December 2017 for the Sound BlasterX Katana on Windows.

Installing it will allow the Sound BlasterX Katana to have its BlasterX Acoustic Engine audio effects, equalizer, LED lighting effects, Dolby Digital settings to be adjusted with the Sound Blaster Connect app on Android.

It is recommended to connect the Sound BlasterX Katana to the computer with the shorter USB cable supplied before installing the firmware as using the longer USB cable may cause the firmware update to fail. It has been tested by the development team but currently the reason is unknown.

It is also recommended to remove any USB flashdrive connected to the Sound BlasterX Katana before updating the firmware.
