Thread: Sound Blaster Audio Service(CtxSvc32.exe) is not running

Sound Blaster Audio Service(CtxSvc32.exe) is not running

The sound card and all the connect features are fully functional and I don't have a single issue with the card.
During a routine check on my Event Viewer I found these errors though :

After a liitle reserach I found that the culprit is the Sound Blaster Audio Service(CtxSvc32.exe) which results as stopped.

The service is not present in Services.msc, but only in Services tab of the task manager.
I can't start the service no matter what I try.
When I am right clicking it and choose start, the service start for an instance and the turns again to stopped.
I tried running it from its file location with no luck.
I tried cleaning my system from every Creative software/driver/trace and re-install everything from scratch with no success.
There is one Creative knowledge base article that suggests to start the Multimedia Class Scheduler service, but I don't even have this service in my list.

Investigating the situation in deep I found out that I don't have full permissions on the file :

I am afraid to change permissions though as I don't know if this can help, and i am afraid that I will make things worst.

    Any ideas ?
Can you owners of the card check the status of your Sound Blaster Audio Service(CtxSvc32.exe) in the Services tab of your task manager ?
Can you please check your permissions on the file(C:/WINDOWS/sysWoW64/CtxSvc32.exe).

    Thank you

A liitle update on my situation :

My issue persisted no matter I cleaned my pc from every trace of Creative software and re-install it from scratch several times.

The problem seemed to be resolved by using the Recovery function of the Settings tab in SB Connect 2 control panel.

For three days the Sound Blaster Audio Service(CtxSvc32.exe) was running as it should,
and my Event viewer was clear of CtxSvc32.exe errors.

Today I checked my services tab of the task manager late in the noon, and I found out that the Sound Blaster Audio Service(CtxSvc32.exe) resulted again as stopped.
I then checked my Event viewer and I found two relative errors, with the first at 07:30 in the morning during the first boot of the day.

So the service was running normally for three days, and without altering any setting it stopped(creating the relative Event viewer error) today during the first boot of the pc.

    Any ideas ?

    Hi Mozzartella,

I personally own the Sound BlasterX AE-5.

I wonder if enabling the recovery function on the software helped the second time for you.

    Hi Mozzartella,

This is a screenshot of the permission of the CtxSvc32.exe on a test computer.

The Sound Blaster Audio Service, CtxSvc32.exe is running on Services.msc as well.

Update: I have just opened "Task Manager" and ended the task of Sound Blaster Audio Service, CtxSvc32.exe and the Sound Blaster Connect 2 software seems to still function properly. I have not tested playing audio but I did changed some of the settings on the software.

You may want to go to Sound Blaster Audio Service Properties and set "First failure", "Second Failure" and "Subsequent failures" to "Restart the Service".

Or you may want to set the "Startup type" to "Automatic (Delayed Start)" or "Disabled".

Re: Sound Blaster Audio Service(CtxSvc32.exe) is not running

    @HT-CL,
thank you for that really usefull post.
The permissions tab is the same even in my system, so I exclude it as a possible cause of the issue.
I also confirm that CtxSvc32.exe is running on Services.msc, and the fault was mine as I was seeking it under another name.

The good news are that I was finally able to reproduce the problem!

Everything is fine when I choose Stereo under the Speaker configuration tab of Soundblaster Connect 2 control panel(Setup/Speaker/Speaker configuration).
When I choose Direct the Sound Blaster Audio Service(CtxSvc32.exe) keeps running, as long as I don't restart/shutdown my system.
With the next restart/shutdown the Sound Blaster Audio Service(CtxSvc32.exe) does not start(results as stopped) and the event viewer gives an error(that can appear 4-5 times during the day).
I went to Service Properties and set "First failure", "Second Failure" and "Subsequent failures" to "Restart the Service", but this did not helped.

The problem is that I want to use Direct mode as I want the soundcard to bypass all the enhancements and EQ settings.

    - Is there a way to use Direct mode without having the Sound Blaster Audio Service stopped and without having all these errors in my OS event viewer ?

    - Will Direct mode work as it should if I disable the service all the way ?

    - Is there any kind of incompatibility with my setup and Direct mode ?

    @HT-CL
I really appreciate your help and efforts, but I want some clarifications :

'Owners of Soundblasterx AE-5 who want to use Direct mode under Windows 10, must disable the Sound Blaster Audio Service'

Can we say that this is a general Creative directive to all users ?
    or
Is it a suggestion for my particular case ?

    - If it's only for me, can you imagine what is causing the issue in my system ?

    - Can I hope that your drivers team will work on the issue and maybe offer a solution to my problem in an upcoming drivers package ?

    - Do you believe that there any drawbacks(ex. less sound quality, limiting the cards potential etc) by disabling the Sound Blaster Audio Service ?

    Hi Mozzartella,

It is a suggestion for your particular case. As you are only using the sound card in "Direct" mode, the audio signals are bypassing the DSP straight to the DAC. No audio effects are added to the audio signal by the software.

For drivers and software feedback, you may want to contact Creative support.

Sorry but your are not answering my question.

I guess that I am not the only one who uses direct mode.
So there are two options :

    a) Everybody that uses direct mode has to turn off the service

    b) It's just me, but in that case there must be something particular in my system that causing the issue.

I simply want to know what this 'something particular' can be, and I expect that your drivers/support team(that I contacted for the third time today) will investigate the issue.
