Code 39!!! Help needed!

I have bought a Creative Live!Cam Video IM Webcam and have installed/uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers multiple times using both the CD and the update on your website, I am running on Windows XP and whenever I connect the camera it has a little message that pops up saying New Hardware Detected: USB Camera and then proceeds with the driver install, the problem I have though is it will extract and install the files or whatever and I get a message at the end of it attempting to install:
Cannot Start this Hardware

there was a probelm installing this hardware:
Creative Live!Cam Video IM Webcam
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.
The driver may be corrupted or missing. (code 39)

I would appreciate any help whatsoever you can give me. thank you.

Re: Code 39!!! Help needed!

Hi,

Not sure if you using a USB hub, if so disconnect your webcam 1st. You'll have to uninstall the driver once again. After that, connect your webcam directly to your system's USB port. During this stage, the add hardware wizard will appear, click next and point it to your cdrom drive to allow the system to install the drivers automatically.

Re: Code 39!!! Help needed!

Same problem here too. Earlier i had logitech webcam installed, i thought that could be the reason in my case.  I have removed all logitech software, logitech registry entries, tried clean bootup... Then installed Live IM drivers without success. Hard to believe this isn't known issue in Creative support.

Re: Code 39!!! Help needed!

I resolved my problem. Bought logitech camera yesterday, works fine. No idea to hassle several days with this live IM camera, it was cheaper to buy new.

Re: Code 39!!! Help needed!

I have same problem. I installed in three notebooks. One notebook has this problem.
No matter what I did, it still didn't work.
The unit it did work has been intalled "Logitech Webcam". I am not sure it is related or not.

Re: Code 39!!! Help needed!

I found a fix that worked for me and I hope it works for anyone else experiencing the same issue. I had to Manually delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values.

To Manually delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values, follow these steps:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
START > RUN > (Type) REGEDIT (and hit ENTER)

2. Locate the UpperFilters and LowerFilters value under the following key in the registry
 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}

3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

NEXT: I went to my Device Manager in Windows XP > IMAGING DEVICES > CREATIVE WEBCAM LIVE! ULTRA then right mouseclicked and chose DISABLE. I Then Right mouse clicked again and chose ENABLE. Then Wallah! My webcam led cam on and the darn thing started working again.

HOW I DISCOVERED WHAT TO DO

I came across a link to a similar problem regarding a CD-Rom Driver install issue returning Error Code 19. This was the same error code that I recieved when trying to re-install my webcam drivers. So I poked around the registry near a similar path (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\) as mentioned in the article found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/EN-US/ until I ran across an entry that said Imaging Devices in it.

Re: Code 39!!! Help needed!

Same problem here. Installed a Logitech camera. Didn't like it and removed it. Put in a Microsoft unit. It would not install. Said the same thing, problem with hardware etc. Unit was yellow marked in device manager. Also lost my usb drivers for my scanner which worked 1 hr before logitech was out in. Called Microsoft. Explained problem. He asked if I had a logitech camera installed at ANY time. Told him yes amd it was removed. He said it didn't matter, I would have to re install the logitech software in order to get the Microsoft camera to work. Sounded phoney to me. Guess what, he was right. Re installed the logictech software and Microsoft camera worked. I couldn't accept such a crappy deal and didn't see why I should have to bog sytem down with software I didn't need or want. Bout a Live Cam. Same problem. If I put the Logitecg drivers back it, Live Cam works. Remove the Logitech drivers and the cam will work till the first time I discconect it and try to use it again. USB drivers will be NFG. I cannot beleive that Logitech has this impact on other web cam companies. It is almost like their software is malware. Any hints on how to solve problem? Tried to get an answer from Logitech for 2 hrs and finally hung up...

Re: Code 39!!! Help needed!

ok, i have not installed Logitech camera software before, but i guess that they install some filter drivers and do not remove the registry key properly when uninstall, but still remove the driver files, and hence cause other webcams cannot work because the filter driver is not found anymore.

That is in line with what cjasonwilson find out.

So if possible, please repeat the steps that cjasonwilson did and see if you can solve the problem, and then you can post the results here for everyone else to see.

Steps are as below:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
START > RUN > (Type) REGEDIT (and hit ENTER)

2. Locate the UpperFilters and LowerFilters value under the following key in the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}

Please write down let me know if you can see UpperFilter or LowerFilters value in the registry key, and what is the value.

3. Delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters value (it's safe, and if could be restored later on if you have written it down, so don't worry).

If possible, please let me know what Logitech camera u are using that cause the problem?
