In case you don't know, vALVE the creators of the sucesful Half-Life and Portal series of games have rleased a brand spanking new Shooter....it's pretty much designed to be a Multiplayer Co-Op, BUT the Single Player Bots can be quite good to. Valve's new game has nothing to do with Black Messa, nor does it have anything to do with Xen...it's pretty much a "tribute" to classic zombie films such as "Day of the Dead, House of the Dead and the more modern 28 Days Later".

You (the player) are thrust into a zombie apocalypse and play as part of 4 survivors blasting the wotsists out of zombies...

I downloaded the Demo which was released on steam on the 11th of November....and loved it. The atmosphere and the whole "scare factor" was immense, the AI director idea which made the game completely different each time you played it is unique and really does make multiplayer fun as it gives you many "wow...did you see that?" moments.

So yeah I pre-ordered the Retail Version of Left4Dead from a UK e-tailer and it arrived yesterday (1 day before the Europe Launch!)

I think that this game is entertaining. Not addictive or Half-Life 2 esque, but still very entertaining.

Sounds great on my X-Fi to.

So, Anyone played it?

Played and beat it already   Now I have been spending hours playing VS mode, which is truely awesome.  I have no idea what you mean by saying this game isn't addictive, I got 22 hours played since it came out about 5 days ago.

Glad to see I am not the only survivor here

It is addictive but not in the same way as Half-Life 2 was...(I tend to get into games with a story etc...Deus Ex (the 1st one) really had me hooked!)

What are the servers like for Multiplayer?

I still have not had the guts to venture onto them....do you know of any decent Europe based servers?

The story is one of the things that annoys me, apparently there were cutscenes and story line and stuff between the levels linking them all together and actually providing plot.  But for some reason valve took those scenes out during playtesting.

As for multiplayers, it is great, most people are awesome and I havn't seen much greefing.  I find that PC's are much better than the AI, they have initiave and you can actually work together.  

As for the servers, it is different than the usueal valve games.  You select what game you want (ex: no mercy, advanced difficulity) and the game will find a lobby for you with other people wanting to play the same game.  Once you get 4 people together, you click start, and the game will automatically find the best server for you guys to play on.  And for people who like the old way of finding a server, if you open up the console (enable it in the settings the press `) and type in openserverbrowser, then the tradational browser will pop up and you can join servers that way.

Give multiplayer servers a shot, they are great fun. Also try verses, the infected take a bit of time to get used to, but they are great fun.  And the survivors have a totally different stratagy.  You can't just sit around and slowly pick off zombies, you have to run like heak or else you will get bogged down and killed.

I shall give the multiplayer a shot, yes I must admit I did feel that it seemed a "Story" was missing, especially with that introvideo (2 weeks after the 1st infection...) and the variety of scrawlings and art throughout the game suggested there was once a story considdered somewhere, but probably abandoned due to time constraints or it"getting in the way of their concept".

Even having cut scenes for the end and start of each campaign would be nice and then a "A-Bomb" video after the end of Blood Harvest or something....would have been sufficient enough to make us feel like we were part of a story, without interferring with the aspects of the game.

Hopefully vALVE might treat us to some goodies in the near future as 4 campaigns does seem a bit...short? (fingers crossed)

I just had a go on versus mode, was pretty good fun, helping out the other survivors and stuff, it's also 10x more challenging as the "character infected" (boombers, smokers, hunters etc) are played be real people, the only thing which annoyed me was the lag got really bad during the 2nd mission on the campaign (subway on "No Mercy"), it effected everyone....not sure why.

Anyway, this Left4Dead video made me giggle

There are zombies, everwhere.  And no where to run, just lots and lots of zombies which want your brains!

As Penguinking said KokChoy, it's utter madness, if you shoot a car it's alarm starts wailing everywhere like a banshee. This sudden noise attracts hoardes of crazy zombies. It is REALLY scary especially on the X-Fi connected to either headphones or a 7.1 surround sound system with Crystaliser set @ 55% + CMSS3D

I had another crack @ Versus mode Penguin, it's madness!! I like the way hunters really do hide and sneak up on you (way better than the AI).

I know sponsorship threads etc are not allowed but perhaps we could have a Creative Forum..."Survivor Team"?

Might be a laugh?
