I bought this headset today - and like many others, I was utterly disappointed to find out the microphone recording level is way too low to be even useful for chatting in games. My team mates could not hear me and even setting every slider I could find to max did not help much. In Skype, people could hear me fine - they just kept asking me if I could turn the mic level up a notch - which I couldn't.
Then I found this driver update. I was very hopeful this would solve the "low microphone level" problem. Mind you, I wasn't using a driver for this headset at all (since it's simply a plug and play USB audio device). I had tested the drivers and Console Launcher application from the original disk though, but uninstalled them after coming to the conclusion they really didn't add anything of value for me.
Anyway, after installating the driver, everything sounded terrible. But I recognized it as the "EAX 3D" and X-Fi Crystalizer" filter. It sounded like these were suddenly switched on. So I also downloaded the Console Launcher and when I ran that, I indeed saw these two were switched on. When I switched them off, everything sounded normal again.
But the low microphone level problem still wasn't solved. In fact, I could not hear any difference at all - my teammates still couldn't hear me in games, and in VoIP apps, my voice was still very soft for the other side.
So add me to the list of "this driver update made no difference for me whatsover" people.

Hello, my BS: Windows 7 Ultimate RC1 64bit
Following problem:
The beta driver of Windows 7 can be installed perfectly. However, then some programmes, e.g., Rosetta Stone, this Headset do not recognise any more. If, however, of Windows update driver is installed, the recognition functions.
Furthermore there does not function the autoupdate, because this own programme also does not recognise the Headset, although it is activated. If I explain the set-up and instal without driver, there comes the following error message:
Error message: "FehlerI-001" It is very irritating if I must return that's why the device, because I would like to use the full performance, as for example the X Financial Accounting to technology, and primarily, however, also for Rosetta Stone.
Yours sincerely

Same problem for, same background noise on the microphone.
Is this now confirmed to be a hardware issue and not driver related at all?
The driver new or old don't fix this problem.
Also, I noticed that the bit-rate on the Properties Panel is greyed out. (means it cannot be changed)
Is this normal? I doubt it...

something else I find quite annoying and I'm not sure if it's just my system, but my old logitech headset used to change all the sound settings to go right to the headset when I plugged it in. I normally use my standard computer speakers during the day then plug in the headset at night and I have to manually go into the sound settings to switch it from my sound card to my headset.

Could someone confirm me this (constant buzz distortion on the microphone input) is a hardware issue?
Then I can RMA the set.
If it's driver related, I would be very happy to hear how to fix it. I tried all drivers / updates with all USB ports.
System is Vista32.
Many thanks.
S.

I dont know what youre doing at Creative!! I bought the Hs-1000 for bloody 75 euros!!!! and that is the MOST useless spending of my money since years!
You drive me NUTS with your drivers and software. I have a XFI gamer card and the HS-1000. Probably its impossible for you to make GOOD software like Logitech, which enables users to switch from their speakers to their headphones and visa versa, while RUNNING an game or App.
I just did u FULL autoupdate and now i dont hear anything anymore through my headset. I just wanted to watch a movie while my girl is asleep. You probably laugh at my situation, as you laugh when you make this kind of software.
Im on the edge of being very rude, and if i am than listen to what im saying and dont ignore this kind of anger. YOU are selling products and on the package you DO NOT print the text that your software and drivers are lousy.
I tried to sell my headset by the dutch version of Ebay. You now what: nobody wants it. Why...well...thats obvious isnt it. Tommorrow im going to buy the Logitech G35. I will never...never buy a headset from Creative again.
Move on...

I would like to hear as well if it's hardware issue or not to solve any possible problems with the store I bought the headset from.
I don't think create will make another driver considering this issue has been known for over a year now and still hasn't been fixed.
