Re: Prodikeys Vista Drivers!!!

No! There will be NO DRIVES FOR THE PRODIKEYS DM for Windows Vista.
The Windows Vista - Driver Availability Chart from Creative says loud and clear:

Keyboards and MiceProductPlan:

All (except Prodikeys & Prodikeys DM):          Native Support
Prodikeys - PS/2                                            No Development Planned
Prodikeys DM - PS/2                                     No Development Planned
Prodikeys DM (Value) - PS/2                        No Development Planned
Prodikeys PC-MIDI - USB                                2007

It looks like you can use your prodikeys DM as a normal keyboard for writing letters but without the musical keys, so you cannot use it as a music-midi-keyboard. If you want to use prodikeys DM and vista together, you can kick your prodikeys dm into your garbage can if you want to use it as a musical keyboard.

Hi hugoboss, where did you get your vista drivers for Prodikeys PC-MIDI - USB? I tried using the drivers for windows xp but it did not work. Can tell me how you managed to installed it? I know there is a way to tweak it in the ini file.

Re: Prodikeys Vista Drivers!!!

Hi,

I know how annoying it was to try and find a solution for the whole Vista + Prodikeys PC-Midi combination. There was absolutely nothing on the net that could help me.

I eventually got it working just using the stock drivers that came with the keyboard, so i signed up for a creative forum account just so i can try and shed some light in this forum.

First of all, I right clicked the setup.exe file in install disc, changed the compatiblity mode to Windows XP SP2, then clicked OK to close the dialogue box. Interestingly, the compatibility settings are retained despite being on a Read Only Medium, so you dont' have to worry about extracting the contents of the disc.

I then ran it as an Administrator (by right clicking again), although I don't think that this step was actually necassary. The screen will go black temporarily, then disable your "aero" theme, if you have it enabled. I'm assuming this is a Windows XP "emulation" compatibility feature.

After you have finished installing it, restart as prompted.

The only other thing I did prior to installing the software was download a registry patch from this thread. Read mono's post (3rd or 4th one down).: http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=keyboards&message.id=536
Again, i don't think that it was necassary, but I'll just cover every single step I took.

Once again, my prodikeys keyboard is fully functional, including all the addon software.

If anyone needs to have the files, i could upload an image of the install disc, however I'm not sure if that violates any copywrite laws.

I don't seem to be having the aforementioned Lag problems.. however I also have an Audigy sound card that is "somewhat" compatible with vista. (beta drivers)

If I can recall, Vista has done away with direct sound, so all of our old cards (eg the trusty SBLive 5.1's) no longer have full audio acceleration.

Also, onboard audio in general is usually.. bad. To say the least. (relative to a decent addon PCI/External card)

Everything I've said here is just knowledge that I have off the top of my head, and from experience. So if anything I have said is incorrect, please don't persecute me too much. I'm just trying to help the handful of troubled people out there get their keyboards working until Creative release proper vista drivers. Apparently they are meant to be out in 2007. It is now June 2007. We have reached the halfway point of the year, so I'd say that they will be releasing something hopefully within the next month.

Please give some feedback if you have success with this, as I have only tried this on 1 system, and can't really substantiate it's reliability. I also won't be held responsible for any damage that you may cause to your system as a result of following my instruction. Although, you really shouldn't be able to do any damage. Vista automatically creates a restore point before you install any device, so if something does go wrong, just do a roll back to just before the installtion.

Re: Prodikeys Vista Drivers!!!

I have the prodikeys PC-midi and I just got a new computer that has windows vista. Are there any plans in the works to make a vista version of the drivers and software. Or do I have to buy a different music keyboard. I have checked the entire website and have found no info. Does anyone have any new info

Re: Prodikeys Vista Drivers!!!

Hi Tomson,

The Prodikeys Keyboard I was referring to was the PC-Midi version. I have not tested this on the Prodikeys DM keyboard.

Hi Javelin,

I would love to get my hands on an image of the PC-MIDI installer. I am one of the unlucky folks that have lost it and can't get their hands on a replacement. I sent you a private message but I'll post in here as well in case you don't see the PM. It would be a godsend if you could do that!
