I purchased a Sony Vaio Laptop not knowing that you cannot play music though the sound card. The sound card and mic are intergarated. All i want to be able to do is play music and talk on the mic in the music rooms on a chat program called Pal Talk. But when I play I have to play though the sound card and it sounds like crap. I need to be able to play though the sound card. I need to purchase a USB sound card just not sure which. A lady on the chat program that has a Sony Vaio, uses a creative usb sound card and her music sounds great. I just can't find her to ask which she uses. Can anyone tell me which sound card i need. I have a Sony Vaio Model VGN-AW125J / Windows Vista Home Premium / 64 Bit / RealTek High Def Audio
Thank You this little problem is driving me bloody nuts!

Hi turnrightat,
You can use " USB, PCMCIA, Expresscard" format sound card for your laptop.
If you are using a USB card it looks like an extension for your laptop but PCMCIA or Expresscard looks integrated to your laptop. USB sound cards can be used either with laptops or desktop, but expresscard or PCMCIA cards can only be used with laptops. Both formats are fine. Before you buy the express card sound card make sure your laptop has Express card /54 slot
If you are looking for a USB sound card " Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1" is a good idea.

If you are lookig for an Express card format sound card, you can purchase either Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Notebook or Sound Blaster X-Fi Notebook.

Please make a note that you need an external speaker system (preferbly 5.1 or 7.1) to make full use of an external sound card; and also your integrated laptop speaker can't be used to output the sound.
I own both USB and PCMCIA sound card for my Sony vaio laptop; both sounds great.
