Why was the FM recording feature removed from the Zen Vision firmware update?

Because they put some new UNuseless features, ha-ha. Guys are you kidding us. Why are you putting some unreasonable features, instead of adding what people really want and what is doable. Rotate and zoom pictures – is it hard to implement? Manage by folders, read RAW?

I would like confirmation if they did remove FM recording purposefully or accidentally?

Was it a digital rights management move? Afraid that allowing recording of commercial radio might be a legal problem?

Several recent requests for Creative to explain the removal of FM recording from the latest Zen Vision (NOT Vision:M) firmware have not yielded an official reply.  This removal of functionality may or may not impact the Zen Vision:M in the future, however part of my reason for deciding on the Zen Vision over other Portable Media Players (PMPs) was due to the availability of this feature.  The Creative Store and web site still note this feature as available on the Zen Vision.

I propose that all of us forum users that would like more information regarding the FM recording removal, or want it back as part of the firmware, contact Creative Support with our concerns.

Use this link to get to Creative Customer Support eMail Support Page.

Select "My Creative hardware stopped functioning correctly" for the Problem Type.

For the Creative Product, select your PMP.  I chose:

     Portable Media Players, ZEN, ZEN Vision 30GB, then click the NEXT button.

Fill in your PMP info.  As for the body text for the message, you are free to compose whatever message of concern you would like.  Mine read:

I am the owner of a Creative Zen Vision (NOT Zen Vision:M).  One reason I chose this portable media player was the availability of FM recording, as I make use of this feature on an almost daily basis.  The latest firmware upgrade removed the FM recording feature from the Zen Vision.

My concerns are: 1) What was the reason for removing the FM recording feature from the Zen Vision, and 2) Will this feature be restored in future firmware updates.

There are several members of the Portable Media Players forum who are also interested in this topic.

omg instead they add the function allowing our pics as wallpaper they remove the record radio function??ughh that is really bad indeed....

Thanks for the link.  I will be emailing them asap.

Part of the reason I wanted the ZVM over the Ipod is the FM and its recording ability.

So what else changed with the new firmware? I probably won't upgrade unless there's a good reason to.

Audible Audio support was added. Removing FM recording was a terrible sneaky thing to do, and Creative will probably end up wishing they hadn't.
