Re: tranfer audio files to external hd

Artist, genre info is data within the file itself You can edit that directly on the external drive. As for playlists that will depend on what you used to create them. If Windows Media Player was used  to create them there should be a M3u file

Thanks. Are you saying then that if I have to reload my player after adding firmware the genre and other files will reappear on the menu in Creative Centrale?

No the metadata (Tag info) is contained in the music file itself. If that info is not there it will not show on the player. The player reads that information.      Are you having a firmware issue?? What OS are you using?? (Vista or XP) the Service Pack & version of Windows Media Player installed?? Creative Centrale may not be the best software for organizing your player or your Music Library. http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=4644

I'm not having a firmware. I'm anticipating another fiormware update which, when installed, will delete all my files. That's why I took CL's advice and backedup my audio files. I'm currently using XP Pro SP3.

Thanks for your explanation.
