Hello All, I'm at my witts end here! I'm trying to get spdif out in vista by using the same configuration from XPP, but its no go.
I dl the Audigy2zs vista drivers from creatives web site and installed them in my newbuild with no problem.
In XP to get Spdif out:
Speakers setting in xp: = sound 5.1 + digital out
Creative audio console: = spdif passthru to external decoder = Logitech 5.1 THX, DTS decoder/Speakers
PowerDVD 9 Ultra: sound = Spdif
THX Console = 5.1
But Vista will not produce bitstreamed compressed sound out like XPP.
In Vista Sound: Spdif
Creative audio console = spdif passthru to external decoder = Logitech 5.1 THX, DTS decoder/Speakers
PowerDVD 9 Ultra sound: = Spdif
But all I get is static. Is there something I'm missing? am I configuring this right??
HELP!!!
regards,
Asamp

When you get static that means you are passing the signal out, but you must still have DOLBY DIGITAL LIVE or DTS CONNECT turned on which is encoding the signal still.

That sounds right. But if you have DDL (Dolby Digital Live) or DTS activated, then they are encoding the signal you are passing out, so if you have an encoded stream from a DVD, then the DDL or DTS will try to encode it again, creating static. If you turn off DDL or DTS Connect, then no encoding is being done and the signal should pass straight through to your speakers and the unit there should decode the signal for playback.

Hi Jmacquire, I'm not at home now but I dont remember a panel for choosing DD or DTS for encoding. I just choose spdif out to my Logitechs for the encoding. Where do you turn DD and DTS off??

Some people bought the Dolby Digital/DTS connect pack for Vista/Windows 7. Therefore I thought you might have a tray applet like my X-Fi console launcher that lets you turn off or on the DTS/Dolby encoding features on the fly

similar but not exact, this codec pack is a great place to start to give you output options on your system for 5.1 sound.

Hi asamp
It sounds OK about your setup. what I shall do is just give you few suggestions to double check with.
1. First make sure your optical/coaxial cable works fine and also your z-5500's control pod; if it is fine...
2. Check whether you have selected Dolby Digital live/DTS connect under the "Encoder" tab of your Creative Audio Console; if it is selected de select it.
3. Check whether you selected 'spdif passthrough' under the decoder tab of Creative Audio Conole. If it is not, select it.
4. Go to' Control Panel' ---- 'Sound'----Select SPDIF Creative Audigy-----Select 'Properties' tab------ select 'Levels' tab and check whether the sound level is set on very low (say 0) (its a 0-100 scale) if it is set in low please move it to a higher value (80/90/100).
After all these measures still your problem persist; go to 'control panel' select 'sound' select 'SPDIF Audigy 2' and set it as default; restart windows and try a DVD.
Try these and let me know whether it work or not
GOOD LUCK
