I have had a replacement soundcard sent to me which Creative diagnostics says is an X-fi Fatal1ty ExtremeGamer Pro with a Model number SB0460 and serial number MASB0466549001897C . The origional soundcard that I sent for a replacement was a soundblaster X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS soundcard with a model number SB0466 with a serial number MASB0466548004219F. 

Creative Labs returns department advises me that the replacment soundcard is the same as the one I returned because the serial numbers both start MASB0466, however Wikipedia advises that the model number for the replacement is incorrect http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_Labs_Model_Numbers. Does this seem correct? Does the model number mean nothing and the serial number advise the type of soundcard I have? Why does Creative diagnostics now advise that the soundcard is an  X-fi Fatal1ty EtremeGamer Pro which it did not before?

I have recieved 3 replacement soundcards that Creative Diagnostics has advised are X-fi Fatal1ty ExtremeGamer Pro with a Model number SB0460 of which I have returned 2 as the returns department agreed were incorrect. Now Creative Labs Returns says other poeple have X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS soundcards which have model numbers SB0460 and dont want me to return this soundcard again. All I asked for is a replacement with a soundcard with a model numbed SB0466 as the SB0460 does not appear to work correctly with the FPS drivers and I/O header unit.

Surely considering that the FPS version is the second most expencive soundcard on sale to the public that Creative Diagnostics would rcognise this as an FPS soundcard and not an Extreme gamer?

Hello, I was reading your whole issue and I was a little freaked out about it. So i looked at mine and sure enough I have SB0460 and S/N MASB04665**********. On the box it has Model SB0466 but my card its SB0460. Creative Diag just shows X-Fi, but when auto update is showing FPS. Hope this helps.

The real model number of a card is based on both the model number on the front, and the serial number. If in the serial number it says "466" then that would normally be the model number (SB0466). Based on the numbers you posted, that is also the model number of your old card, so they should be the same model.

Hmm.. weird. I also have a X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS Pro and it's also the SB0460 but my serial number is slightly different.

The Extreme Music card I got a few months ago has a model# of SB0460.

The Platinum and XtremeMusic as well as the Fatality Pro seems to use the SB0460 card.

Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum SB0460
Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic SB0460

I know my Fatal1ty Pro is SB0460.

The serial number though seems different.

I've found the following serial numbers for the Soundblaster X-fi Fatal1ty FPS soundcard:

SB0466
SB046A

So what's the difference between the Fatal1ty FPS and the Platinum Fatal1ty Champion?

Why does Windows report the Sound Device as SB800 and why should a Platinum Fatal1ty Champion come out of a box marked Fatal1ty FPS some 8 months ago, when it was listed as a 'new product' just recently?
