Re: Message to Daniel_K

Well HellasVagabond, being a completely different chipset I did not imply that the CMI 8788 based cards held the exact same functionality as the Creative X-Fi. I simply stated that their drivers work perfectly under Windows Vista, and Linux. Other than the lack of hardware EAX support, they boast similar/superior features (Dolby Digital Live etc.) and variants from manufacturers such as ASUS and Auzentech completely destroy Creative's own products in terms of sound quality.

A lot of Creative customers appear to be in denial over whether there are viable alternatives on the market. There are, and for their own sanity, perhaps those experiencing problems with the X-Fi, Audigy etc. should give those a try.

Re: Message to Daniel_K

I remember hearing about this a while back.  Now that it is Slashdot'd I'm even more amazed at a company that will put itself on the slaughtering board rather than face the truth.

Congrats!!  I'll never buy anything with the name "Creative Labs" ever again.  Arrogant assholes!

Re: Message to Daniel_K

I see Creative reads theses posts, Why are they not responding to anyones questions except from Daniel_K?

I have been a strong buyer of Creative since the 386 days. I have bought almost all version of their sound cards. Heck I STILL have a Remote Cdrom somewhere. I have a creative $70 keyboard. which is getting on my nerves. It hurts to quit supporting a company. BUT I have ethics. I did volunteer FD, I enjoy helping people, and if a company wants to sue someone for helping, i want nothing to do with that company. Good buy. Au Revoir.

Say hello to slashdot.

now you know you are doing something great or something stupid.... lets see what you think you are doing ?

on a side note.

for Australian users, feel free to lodge a compliant on your product with your consumer watch dog.

it's against the trade practices act to sell a product that is unfit for it's description of use, since you state you support vista and you don't, your in breach of the trade practices act of Victoria and most likely the rest of Australia.

get ready to get your refunds boys.....

Like a couple of other people, I registered just to make this one post.

1) Creative Labs is well within their rights to prohibit modification of their software. Their EULA even states that you're not permitted to reverse-engineer their code. If you do what daniel_k did, you should expect Creative Labs to contact you.

2) Yeah, it sucks that you can't get decent/working Vista drivers for cards you bought prior to Vista being released. I remember thinking how much it sucked that a rendition video card wasn't supported under Windows 2000, but hey, life goes on.

3) Here we are, almost a year and a half since Vista was released, and there is STILL a severe shortage of working drivers for the OS. Here's a hint for other hardware manufacturers - we DO NOT want to buy new hardware when what we have is less than 6 months old.

4) If this ticks you guys off so much, send your all your Creative stuff back to CL with a note saying why, and buy something from another manufacturer. Voting with your wallet is the most effective means of revolt.

5) When you buy hardware, try to make sure it's compatible with Linux. At least at that point, you're notinexorably connected to Windows if driver support ends under that OS.

6) To daniel_k - your biggest mistake was asking for money, even in the form of voluntary donations.

7) I'm not a gamer anymore, so I'm perfectly happy using the Realtek built-in audio components on my motherboard. As a result, I haven't bought a sound card in 10 years.

Re: Message to Daniel_K

By the same logic, you could be sued for fraud.  Selling something that doesn't do what it says it does.  You should be paying Daniel for his work until your people can catch up.

Apparently people at Creative don't use the latest OS and/or don't use all the features of their own devices.

If you want to see how frivolous law suits work out do some research on SCO.  Actually, I'm not sure it is a good comparison.  At least the people they were trying to take down were not making their broken product function for people who paid for the full functionality.  I think your case is somewhat more ludicrous if that's even possible.

He's probably a college student and needs money or he's a Finnish high school student and needs the cash for a new graphics card.  Either way, throw the guy a bone or at least let other people do so!!!  Actually, even if the dude is a millionaire you don't deserve all the money for the cards you are selling if they don't fully function any more than you have a right to keep him from getting donations for his hard work.  I'm sure there are people buying your cards for the functions that don't work.

Please don't mention IP on any more of your posts until you have drivers with at least the same functionality as his, without using his IP to make them.  On the other hand, use his work to get the job done fast.  Just don't bring up something stupid (in this context) like IP.  Make your own drivers without using any of Danial's IP.

If you were smart, you would hire Danial.  However, since your post displays a clear lack of inteligence I don't expect you to do that.

I don't have Windows Vista but I am going to look for Danial's drivers just to keep on hand in support of his work and as a reminder of how disfunctional and foolish corporate America can be.

I had to register just to post this...

I have been a long time supporter of Creative. I am appalled at your views on user modded drivers. The community (Daniel_K) is doing your job and all you can do is complain and whine about it. Maybe if you would pull your heads out of your butts and stop intentionally crippling your drivers to FORCE people to purchase your newer cards, which in most cases are less capable than the previous generations to begin with, and start producing quality H/W as well as drivers again, people wouldn't have to do your job for you.

Word of mouth hurts or helps a business especially with how fast information travels on the internet. I for one will be spreading the word that all Creative offers is junk and point others to your competitors. Let us hope the word spreads fast and it hurts you where it counts the most.

I just purchased (as of 20 minutes ago after reading all the crap surrounding this) a competing product and I will never be supporting this company again. You have become complacent and arrogant and it severely shows. It's time your business model dries up and blows away.

EDIT: I just filed a complaint with the Indiana State Attorney Generals Office for selling a product unfit for its advertised purpose. There are consumer protection laws against what your business model is based on. I sincerely hope enough people complain about it.

You may have a legal standing on protecting your IP, but there is no protection when it has been proven that these features do indeed work and are being intentionally crippled.

Two thoughts--

-- This company's actions with Vista support and intentionally crippling features that can be made to work are far, far worse than anything Daniel_K ever did.  It really shows just how weak their current product line is   I have a couple of Audigy 2's and an Audigy 4 that work just fine due to Daniel_K's amazing efforts.

-- The sooner the buying public withholds their support for Creative, the sooner they go under and people like Daniel_K can get back to making working drivers/applications for their HW--for which I would pay $'s for...

Re: Message to Daniel_K

Hi, I just wanted to register to say that i WILL NOT be buying any more creative products or recommending any creative products in any PC i built for my customers. I will also personally be removing all creative products from all my PCs and disposing of them. This is absurd and shows how shoddy Creative truly is.

Not only do their drivers absolutely fail to work properly on Vista the ones for XP are horrid and bloated.

Wow, Creative, your PoS company never fails to choose the most cartoonishly stupid way to do things. I'm glad I abandoned you long ago for your ass backwards Linux attitude. So the X-Fi doesn't even work on Vista? Amazing. Naturally, you had to go after the guy who exposed you as the fraudulent pukes you are.

DIAF Creative. I hope you choke on all the money I've given you over the years.
