Quoted from another thread, the real reason there is no Vista support for current cards:
Unfortunately, I think the ones who think Creative purposely crippled X-Fi drivers to push their new to be released products are right. I’ve just checked the Windows Vista Hardware Compatibility list and found two recently certified products from Creative:
- SB X-Fi 2 (logo completion date – 03/11/2008): http://winqual.microsoft.com/HCL/ProductDetails.as
px?m=v&g=d&cid=110&sv=&f=&pn=SB%20X-Fi%202&oid=24 - SB X-Fi Surround 5.1 (logo completion date – 02/21/2008):
http://winqual.microsoft.com/HCL/ProductDetails.aspx?m=v&g=d&cid=110&sv=&f=&pn=SB%20X-Fi%20Surround% ...
Most probably, only these new products will have full official support...

I have been faithfully purchasing Creative products all the way back to the original Sound Blaster days. My X-Fi Fatality that is currently in my machine is and will be the last coin that Creative gets from me. Intentionally breaking features on a product between Operating Systems is bad enough, but when a man comes along and God Forbid, enables people to ACTUALLY USE WHAT THEY PAID FOR, that's stealing and has got to stop. Despicable, utterly despicable...
A question for those out there, these drivers are for Audigy only and will not work on X-Fi, am I right? If so, is there a comparable driver package for X-Fi?
Grab those torrents and seed them everywhere.
Go to Hell, Creative. I'll enjoy watching you burn.

Let’s face facts, Creative Labs have always been lacking in providing good quality drivers for their SoundBlaster range of products. In addition the lack of availability of both drivers and software from their website has provided me with plenty of headaches over the years. It has always proven to be the company’s greatest weakness as the hardware itself is generally very good. Now this is going back a number of years, perhaps even to the mid 90's. The situation has never inspired trust I have to admit, but I really thought maybe some changes were being made, albeit at snail’s pace.
Well... these events have confirmed my long held suspicion that Creative has no interest in supporting their customers. It really beggars belief that Creative would take this course of action. A large number of your customers rely on talented people like Daniel_K to provide them with drivers that are both stable and provide the features that are being advertised ON THE BOX. Now I can understand that you may have issue with him asking for donations but surely if your own driver set wasn’t a shoddy mess this situation would never have occurred in the first place.
When it comes to replacing my hardware where do I go from here? Now I know that it’s Creative’s company policy (across the board I presume) to cripple products one cycle in to get us poor gullible customers to upgrade, maybe I won’t buy from them in future. I also dictate all hardware purchases for the company I work for and again, maybe I’ll think twice. I’m sure readers of Digg, Wired, Slashdot etc are thinking twice ;-)
It takes years to build a reputation, seconds to lose it. My message to the board at Creative is to get a grip and work out a structured plan in order to improve piss poor customer service.
I hope the stock market gets wind of this **bleep** storm.

Not a bad idea.
I just e-mailed:
- www.nmanet.nl (Dutch Fair Trade Commision)
- Nelie Smit Kroes (European Uniion minister, probably best known for fining Microsoft for monopoly practises)
- www.reclamecode.nl (Dutch organisation that monitors claims made in advertisements)

Creative have the right to enforce the rules they see fit as a company, whilst i understand what his work meant towards most of the people here you all have to remember he his breaking the law. Daniel_K as far as im concerned deserves the level of attention he is getting right now for several different reasons. However he himself knows that he has to stop in his current line of action, also having already releasing a personal statement in this very thread saying he intends to do just that.
I would like to think that no further action is taken against him, by Creative Labs. Unless of course this new informal verbal agreement is broken, in which case Daniel_K would again deserve the level of attention again. In a rather different light. Now during my time reading this thread, Daniel_K himself also claims that Creative also have been releasing crippled drivers.
However, i will say this... During my personal battle with Atari, over the state of test drive unlimited. there was a time that the pressure of the community worldwide in backing me up led to a mixture of feelings. Which in turn made me feel bad about what i had done, despite all my actions based upon being helpful and with 100% good intentions.
So Daniel_K my message to you is simply this, change your name and disappear from this, Creative have played their hand, that was dealt to you. i suggest you fold !!! the community will take care of creative as they see fit, with regards to further purchase of their products, and this subject is far from over. But also learn from my mistakes, because if you continue fighting you will hit a wall.
i understand how it feels to be part of something where your intentions were nothing short of just being helpful, and then being turned upon by those you help. but creative feel your no longer needed or healthy for them. Which leads me to my last comments.
Creative, he did help your customer base no matter how you look at this. So hopefully apart from damage reputations and maybe even profit loss you wont seek to take legal action against him. because what goes around, comes around...
