Roland47, everything that I said was a fact. I've seen the same problems time and time again, and experience it myself too.
I doubt much of any of the crapness is unfound, in fact I know it isn't.
I experienced more problems with this **bleep** card than any other piece of hardware I have ever owned or even used or serviced.

Roland47, I know this I was just offering an honest suggestion and I don't need this whole "your opinion may differ from someone else's lecture."
There is a time when the facts speak for themselves however. You can't tell me that the X-Fi does not have an extremely high amount of problems and not be lying.

So this guy is doing what you are either unwilling or unable to do. Who's fault its that?
Never...and I mean, NEVER...have I seen a company shoot themselves in the foot quite like you have, Creative. You had the world...and pissed it all away due to laziness and apathy.
Hope you enjoyed it while it lasted...at very least your reputation is damaged beyond repair, at worst your days are numbered. Look at the pages and pages of people saying they will never again buy one of your products...probably shouldn't piss off the people that pay your salaries.
Lastly, 5 years wasn't enough time to prepare for Vista?

its ironic... i thought this was one of the few companies that actually allowed people to create there own drivers... a quick note to creative:
You guys are complete and utter idiots. What Daniel_K was doing is technically not illegal because, even though he was distributing them world wide, he was not selling the drivers to anyone. Under United States law if he is not selling his drivers to the public or the private then what he is doing is infact completely "legal" and the threat you made to him about legal actions is completely and utterly useless. It would be thrown out in court because there is no evidence that his drivers impacted creatives sales negatively and made him wealthy off of creatives work. There is, however, plenty of evidence that shows that his drivers impacted sales positively and made creative much wealthier. Your threats to him are useless creative. In a U.S. court of law they wouldn't last a day because all the evidence points to your benifit. Of anything you should be sued for such a criminal act.
lastly... i was planning on using a creative Fatality in my first PC build but with this i'll be switching to an Asus motherboad because i don't have to worry about crappy audio companies ripping off there customers...

Wow it amazing how this topic grown so big in only 3 days! Each reload I do there’s like a page or two more! At the time I’m writing those lines, there are 205 of them so far. I’m even amazed that registrations are still open on this forum. Thinking that Creative deleted lots of posts, it really amazed me that new poster can tell “freely” (as long they don’t get deleted) what they think. This said, be aware that if my post get deleted I will repost it until I get banned. If this occurs, I will register again and repost it until Creative gets tired. I actually encourage everyone to do the same, if such things should happen. It’s important ours opinions be heard!
First off, I want to say how much disappointed I am of Creative attitude toward Daniel_K. The guy is helping the community on a people helping people forum and is asked to stop because he’s helping too much… See the contradiction here? He restored missing feature originally available and isn’t even thanks for it. Instead he’s asking to stop because it goes against business plan… This kind of attitude should be illegal. Also the donation thing isn’t such a big deal. It’s a common practice in the driver modding community. The only company complaining is Creative. ATI and nVidia never complained on such things, they even used modded code from time to time. I mean… come on. Give the guy a job, he deserves it.
The product you sold were promoted with feature. Features now removed supposedly because of Windows Vista new audio architecture. Don’t hide behind false excuses, they have been proved wrong by Daniel_K. How can this even be legal? It not what was advertised. If you don’t want to do Vista driver, fine don’t do them. You are intentionally crippling good product to sell newer one, but still they aren’t working as advertised. It has been a year since Vista has been released now and as far as I’m concerned not much improvement has been done yet. But wait, here’s the best part: when Vista was first released, from what I remember no final drivers were available at all! How is it possible that I, a simple IT guy, was able to get myself a legal beta copy from Microsoft months before final release, when an entity like Creative, who probably work somewhat close to Microsoft don’t even seemed to have test their product on it? It was a well known fact that Vista audio would be different and thus drivers would have to be rewritten. How come nothing good was available on Vista release? Another thing that bugs me: What the hell is the idea with ALchemy!!! Why don’t you do a driver with a built in wrapper that listens for DirectSound pack and convert them to OpenAL on the fly. It would be much more effective and would give you the ability to know which games do not work instead of trying to find the ones working. Don’t tell me it’s impossible, ASUS do more than that in their current Xonar drivers. They actually emulate EAX effect on the fly. It does take more resources, but it’s really effective. If you would convert on the fly DirectSound request to OpenAL by a Windows service or by a built in wrapper in the driver, you would still take less resources than ASUS solution but with hardware support. Anyway with Vista’s new sound architecture, it’s kind of thought to take more resources; the counterpart is that buggy driver like yours should not affect system stability anymore.
I myself have been a long time Creative product user, but that time is over. I mean you guys make incredible audio chip, the best on the market, as far as I’m concerned. The only problem is that you terribly suck at writing drivers. I’ve been waiting over a year to get usable, non buggy drivers, but after a year, the fact is I’m still waiting. It did some good though. Other solutions are finally appearing, concurrence is developing at customers benefit. No more we’ll we have to use your product for gaming. ASUS new Xonar DX, per exemple, is a serious X-FI killer. It might only be software EAX like you pointed; more specifically an emulation of EAX, but it works. So yeah, effects won’t be exactly the same, but it’s a lot simpler and effective than ALchemy. It does take more resources off the CPU thought, but that’s pretty much how Microsoft planned sound management in Vista anyway. At the end it’s still better than sticking with your actual solutions and support. Your only interesting solution now would be X-FI MB, but it will still be to the detriment of your actual product line. In the end I hope all this will helps develop the industry.
Good bye Creative, it has been nice while it last but now it’s time for new player.

I do not think donations were a part of the issue here, to be honest.
Look at it this way... I can charge for my Creative drivers. Now I am profitting off your product and thus stealing from the company. But if the company's drivers are free to product owners as they are and I hope that Creative does not try to change that, and I make my own alternative driver for free and people choose to use it, then I am in no way stealing from the company. If that driver happens to work better, I just made their product better and perhaps the company should consider hiring me, especially on the case of Creative because of their lack of support for both Vista and XP and since I appear to be doing something right, maybe my drivers can benefit the company on an official level.
Now, if I ask for a donation for my services to help with various projects I may have in store in the future, that is not charging for the driver. First, payment is optional, and second, the donations are funding his projects and time and not the driver itself.
More so, it's not like Creative offers driver updates. Daniel_K did them a service.

I have to say, the only one that appears to be stealing here is Creative. If functionality has been disabled that was previously present on certain models, disabling that functionality is stealing from the customer. Forgive me if that's not the case, but that's what I'm picking up from reports today.
I have not used these custom drivers nor have I even heard of 'Daniel_k' before reading the news today about this thread. However, the actions against him seem fairly ridiculous. He's providing support and functionality that you (Creative) have failed to successfully provide. If anything, you probably should have offered him a job or purchased his modifications. By taking this action to threaten and squash him, you once again stand out as being a foolish company who's days may be numbered. This is especially so, since the biggest flaw in Creative products (in my opinion) has been the drivers.
Take a look at how your customers feel about your actions. You can stay on your high horse and stick to your foolish opinions, or you can make the smart move and start listening. I don't know what has happened to this company, but its become garbage and has long ceased to be professional in my eyes.
Its been awhile since I've bought a creative product and it looks like I have more reason to be avoiding them in the future.
