Now, I have to word this carefully:
The audio stack in Windows 7 is 100% different from that in XP.
You may be able to do an AC3 passthrough which leaves your spdif/digital sound untouched and it should passthrough the port to your receiver.
Try this for the info:
http://shark007.net/forum/Thread-problem-spdif-pas
This way your sound is not processed or downsampled in Windows 7 and is left untouched to be processed by your receiver. Otherwise you will only get stereo out from the digital out jack.

I had installed Shark007's win 7 codec pack, and tried a variety of settings (including what he posted in the thread) to no avail. For some reason i could not get the passthrough to work without downsampling to stereo. The other difference is that i am using SMPlayer instead of Media Player Classic. On my XP system, SMPlayer appeared more efficient decoding 1080P (it did not skip frames). I have not looked at the differences between the two in win 7.
I did not however try messing with Directvobsub. I will post an update after I test with Directtvobsub, AC3filter and MPC.
I have no idea where to pull the model number from or i would post that as well.

Updates: Soundblaster model CT4760 (soundblaster live!)
I installed Shark007's codec pack v2.1. In the audo tab i selected "use AC3 filter for S/PDif" along with "use passthrough" for FFDShow SP/Diff passthrough. Under the config tab i selected AC3 filter config and in the SPDiff config tab went to remove teh check from "do not enciode PCM." It was not checked already. I installed MPC home theater and opened up my favorite MVK. No sound at all. I opened up the file in Windows Media player and i get sound but only in 2 speakers (again i get the center channel, but it comes through L and R instead of the center channel speaker). I can tell that my reciever still is not recognizing the stream as AC3 so it does not decode. I them restarted just for fun
Post restart it is the same. Strange thing is that i get the AC3filter icon in the systray, but it does not appear to be engaged (i.e. there is no activity on input levels or the output levels). AC3filter is engaged when i use Windows media player (i.e. activity in output/input levels), but still just two channels of audio.
Somethign else i find interesting is when i disable SPDIFF in AC3 filter, (unckeck spdiff box), i get activity in input/outout levels, but still just sound in two channels.
This problem has frustrated me to no end
I will post more if i make any progress

Hi Dan, Just want to know when SB Live! support CMSS in Windows 7, are you planning to add CMSS feature in future release. Thanks for the work.

Strangely, this driver (SB Live! series Support Pack 1.5) didn't work out for me, while older one (SBL_VTDRV_LB_2_10_0001A.exe) did perfectly.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, SB Live! Value. Newer driver seems to be installed correctly, but the sound is garbled. Maybe the info will be helpful in your work.
Anyway, you solved my problem with the older driver. Thanks for your work!

I'm trying to play CoD6: Modern Warfare 2 but the sound is very distorted. It sounds like the bass is up by 200% and it's much louder than everything else. I tried the EAX Games - Disable effects setting but it did not help. None of those settings made a difference. Any ideas?

jmacguire wrote:The only way to get sound from all your speakers from a stereo source is to upmix them. that is where you would use something like CMSS-3d. It has been years since I have used a Sound Blaster Live card, but perhaps you can activate such a feature if it exists in Daniel K's package. This is the only way I know of in the Creative utilities to upmix the sound. Some programs like FooBar have plugins to upmix your music also for playback and some DVD software does as well.
Thank you JM!
FooBar clone front speakers to rear very well, with ANY sound card, but it's ugly! Jajajaja
I'm searching for a WinAMP plugin now.
Thank you again for your time and excellent answer.
Cheers! ![]()
