Re: X-Fi Problem

Abit Fatal1ty AN8 Motherboard - UPDATE

Attention all Fatal1ty motherboard owners.........

I finally got my XFI extreme music card to work. I was getting unknown PCI device errors and non-booting issues...

I did some research on Abit's website and they have creaded a Beta BIOS 18 update.

Here is the link to the forum...(please allow me to post this link)

http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?t=93036

----------------------------------------------------------------

I had to uninstall all XFI drivers and software, turn off my PC, remove the card from my PCI slot, then restart my PC.

After downloading the zip file, I unzipped it and ran my FlashMenu program and it installed and flashed my new BIOS....

I turned off my PC and installed the XFI card. I installed the original drivers and programs that are on the CD that came with the card.

I cold and warm rbooted my PC and NO ERRORS..... YAH!!!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Here is my setup:

AMD FX-55 Processor
ABIT Fatal1ty AN8 motherboard (ver. 18 BIOS)
BFG 7800GTX
2GB Corsair XMS PRO
NEC DVD/RW Burner
2x 250gb Maxtor 16mb Hard Drives

Re: X-Fi Problem

Hi everyone,

First of all I'd like to thank you all again for your feedback, both here on the forum and in direct contact with Customer Support.

A problem was identified on nForce4 based systems where the system ran into difficulties, related to the enumeration of the cards with 2MB (X-Fi XtremeMusic and X-Fi Platinum). This resulted in a variety of symptoms:

- The system may freeze or not boot

- The system may list multiple "Unknown PCI Device" entries and lead to a BSOD

- The system may reboot repeatedly (when "Automatically Restart" is enabled in the Advanced system settings)

Some motherboard manufacturers have already acknowledged this issue and released a BIOS update to resolve it. For systems where a BIOS update is not available we will be providing an alternative resolution in the form of a replacement card with modified firmware. Please contact Customer Support for your region for further details.

Re: X-Fi Problem

So, the problem is affecting ONLY the Xtreme Music and Platinum, and ONLY with nForce4 motherboards?

Re: X-Fi Problem

Since Creative is replacing these cards, is that evidence that there is a problem with the X-Fi cards and the motherboard manufacturers are just patching around buggy soundcard firmware, or is this a problem with the nForce4 chipset and Creative is just being nice?

Are you working with DFI? I'm experiencing these problems on my NF4X nForce4.

Do you have replacement cards available now?

Re: X-Fi Problem

actually using the xfi cards with 7800gtxs or eq. theres some sort of voltage spike caused by super powerful video cards that cause some of the sound cards components to burn up causin an immediate rma...
