XFi notebook and Vista Ultimate

I purchased a Dell 1720 notebook and the XFi card to go with it.  Upgraded the notebook to Vista Ultimate 32-bit and I cannot get the XFi card to be recognized.  Uninstalled the old drivers and installed the latest Vista drivers and the diagnostics software does not see the card.  Anyone have any info on this issue?

Am I the only one having problems with Vista Ultimate and X-Fi Notebook?

Re: XFi notebook and Vista Ultimate

Okay, I'm going to bump this because I am having the same problem. I just purchased an XPS M1330 notebook w/ Vista Ultimate. I put the X-Fi card in, told Windows not to search for a driver, and installed the contents of the CD (drivers, etc.). When the computer reboots, the Creative software says it cannot find any Creative Hardware.

Now the details. When I insert the card, Vista recognizes it as two things: a "standard PCI-to-PCI bridge" that the Device manager says is working (no conflicts) and the other device that appears when the card is inserted is labeled as "not working," which is the "High Definition Audio Controller."

Even if I manually point Vista to specific driver areas on the CD it came with, the Creative program directory, or Windows' system32 folder using the "Have Disk" option, I get no driver recognition. Like Mikalar I've downloaded the newest drivers but the same thing happens.

A search in the knowledge base turns up nothing; basically a bunch of stuff that's NOT about the X-Fi comes up, even when selecting the X-Fi Extreme Audio Notebook specifically. However, one suggestion, which was for PCs, suggested I disable the on board audio. That doesn't make much sense for a notebook, but I thought why not. When I tried it, I found Dell's bios doesn't allow you to disable it. Not surprising to me, since if I don't bring the card (when it's not convenient... it IS a notebook), how will I listen to stuff?

Anyway, if anyone knows anything about this or has any experiences with installing it (successful or not), please post a reply. I'd like to hear from you. Or Milakar, if you solved the problem or gave up, please let me know as well. =P If I have to send this thing back, I will. Disappointed. But I will.

Re: XFi notebook and Vista Ultimate

I would like to add that when I ran the Creative System Information application it shows, under the Creative Products tab in the Creative hardware section, both the "High Definition Audio Controller" and the "PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge" but under the Creative product ID section it lists nothing.

The Creative Diagnostics application doesn't do squat. Requires the card to have been detected, etc...

Re: XFi notebook and Vista Ultimate

Bingo, thats the issue that I have.  So Creative support gives me a list of things to try, which I already have, then pushes me off to Dell support.  They gave me a link to the onboard drivers (Sigmatel), so I already know how this is going to end up.

Re: XFi notebook and Vista Ultimate

Is anyone at Creative going to address this issue since Microsoft indicates that the error is a device driver error???

When is someone at Creative going to recognize this problem and fix it?

Re: XFi notebook and Vista Ultimate

I appear to be having the exact same problem. This is very frustrating. I am becoming extremely dissatisfied with my purchase.
