All,
Well I've been enforcing good ratings for a while now, so I guess I will join your group. I can't change my sig (as Creative Employees need to have the nice Creative signature) but I will certainly continue to give posts that need a good rating a good rating.
I do have a question though. What about posts that are actually bad? Is it ok to rate those down as long as it is justified? If so, perhaps the group should be "The Enforcers of Fair Ratings".

another fellow enforcer! What justifies as a "bad post"? I have seen posts saying "I will only buy iPods, I dont like Creative" and go on to explain why with a rating of 1. Then there are posts that just say "Hi!", that remail unrated.I think I speak for the group that reward works better than punishment. I only rate the "good" (helpful, accurate, [SSR's]) messages.Message Edited by bberenbaum on 02-06-2006 11:33 PM
I agree. I usueally only rate posts with a 4 or 5 now, unless something is soo horrible that I want to bang my head on my keyboard in frustration. Usueally I like to imporve peoples rateings which people gave a bad rateing too.
We could also enforce good rateings by giveing out bad rateings inorder to encurage good rateings (like negative conditioning or something like that which im supposted to know for psychology

I got the 15000'th post in the Lounge!!

Bberenbaum,
The only posts for me that get low scores (or are "bad") are the ones in which someone is being a bad forum member. By that I usually mean posts that attack other people rather than discuss ideas. Someone who posts saying that they don't like Creative (or as they often say "Creative Sucks"...which I don't agree with) are expressing their opinion and in my opinion are not making "bad" posts per se. If they go on and on about it then that falls into a moderator area, but that is not something that ratings will be needed for.
What I think is/will be important about ratings in the forums that are aimed at technical help will be their ability to allow people to rate up/down posts based on how applicable or accurate the information in the post is. So a post with incorrect information in it will probably get a lower score and hopefully those people lowering the score will reply with the correction. More importantly, answers that are helpful or insightful will get higher scores which will reinforce the information. The forums aren't quite there yet, but perhaps this group can help that by making sure that good suggestions and posts get the recognition they deserve.

The great Creative Expert has spoken!! we shall obay!!!
That does sound like how the message boards should work. Im not sure if geting a good ranking has any real meaning to most people though. Alot people seem to rank posts depending on the beliefs of the person (ie: ipod video is better than the zen vision usueally gets rankings of 1 or 2, no matter how well written the post is). There are other people who just rank things randomally. And for people like me, I feel that the ranking system has close to no value whats-so-ever (although it would be nice to change that). But your idea is a worthy goal to work towards though.
