Hi
I have an old Soundblaster 5.1 sound card which works fine on Windows XP. I want your advice on what sound card I should purchase that will allow me to play musc and chat at the same time on PalTalk.
My understanding is that to be able to play music files, either stereo mix or What U Hear needs to be enabled
My Windows 7 does not have Stereo Mix or What U Hear
Please advise me what sound card will be ideal to allow me to play music files
Many Thanks
Bob Gunnis

Hiya Bob
This might be a case of 'grannies and eggs' and I apologise if it is, but have you opened the recording counsel by right clicking on the speaker icon in the tray. Then right click somewhere in the open window. Then check mark the 'Show disabled devices' and 'show disconnected devices'.
If you have already done this and still not got the 'what you hear' then I use the extreme gamer in audio creation mode to play music into paltalk and talk at the same time, but at a guess most of the SB cards do this.
Hope this helps.

Hi eezeeprey
Many thanks for your reply and advice. I have check marked the Show Disabled Device and Show Disconnected Devices and Stereo Mix or What U Hear are not there.
I have checked on Creatvie Website and have finally plumped for the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI Express S Sound Card and have also checked that they have the necessary drivers to operate this card on Windows7.
Fingers crossed that this will solve my Paltalk problems
By the way, I used to know someone with a user name like yours that used to come into Trivvie With Friends, its not you is it??
Thanks for your help
Bob

Thanks for your reply
According to the Creative Website, the following is the up to date driver for the X-Fi sound card so hopefully all will be functioning once the card and driver are installed
XFXA_PCDRV_LB-1_04_0000.exe
Hope you find the drivers for your card

Hiya Bob
Yes it is me that you refer to. Screen name doesn't change much no matter what I use it for.
My x-fi extreme card is a year or so old now and works perfectly well with the updated drivers with windows 7 and paltalk.
There is stuff missing that i used to find useful but there is 3rd party software by daniel k that i installed last night which seems to work well enough.
If you need help to set things up when you get your new card and can remember where to put the space in my screen name(lol it's not that hard) then PM me if you see me online and i'll help where ever i can.

Hiya RobRoy
Sorry to say this but windows 7 does have the what you hear feature.
If it is missing for you it either isnt available for your sound card or you need to reinstall the drivers.
That is of course if you have already followed the advice I gave to Bob in my OP.
Hope you can get it working

Hi Titch
Don't know whether this will help of not because I am still waiting for my sound card to be fitted wihich means exchanging my mother board for a mother board with a PCIe slot to faciliate the sound card being installed.
I will post a link that will provide the Drivers that are Windows 7 compatable but as I say, I can't confirm that the problem has been resolved till my PC is back in my hands
