Windows 7 Sound Stutter Solution - Fixed my sound issues.

I have had some stuttering when I installed windows 7 32-bit and the latest SB drivers for my X-Fi XtremeMusic sound card.

In XP I never experienced this issue before.

My music stuttered  when browsing the web with Explorer 8.

I made one simple adjustment to my PC in the BIOS.

I changed the hard disk  DMA mode from Auto to Ultra DMA 5 and saved the settings.

Make sure you are not running your hard drive in PIO mode. I left my PIO mode to Auto.

I have tried to re create the stuttering while browsing by opening several windows in explorer 8, all the stuttering is gone.

Ultra DMA 5 apperantly enables the hard disk to operate at  higher data transfer rates which  increases the performance of your hard drive.

My PC is not high end.

Running Pentium 4 3.2 GHz processor on a Asus Motherboard P4C800-E Deluxe.

This solution may fix the sound issues some of you are experiencing.

Great job.  Something similar used to happen in Widnows 95 and 98 when they were first using "bus mastering" drivers for IDE drivers rather than standard microsoft ones.  Great solution.

Re: Windows 7 Sound Stutter Solution - Fixed my sound issues.

try this web page and see if you have a problem. It crashes my audio before any of the videos finish.

http://www.vimeo.com/channels/vjhd#7174318

media center music with visualization will crash it too.

It doesn't suprize me its a bios setting. I think the whole thing has to do with latency and board timing.

Overall I'm pissed. creative could just come out and say,"Look, the older products are not compatable with windows 7. Go out and buy a new creative windows 7 compatable card" But they haven't. They have said that x-fi is totally compatable with windows 7 and its not. win 7 is out. The RTM has been out for months. They have had time to make drivers. They just haven't done it. I use a lot of audio applications day to day. I'm tired and pissed off about having audio crashs.

seriously, just release a quick fix with basic sound and worry about all the eax **bleep** later.

Update on this issue.

I have come across the stuttering again but not as frequent. It happens when browsing and is random.

I am afraid this may be a sound driver issue.

Windows XP never displayed these symptoms on the same hardware.

The UUA driver from DanielK, it works perfectly for me. No hissing or anything while on desktop or browsing. Search for XFI_AuzenUAA_1_0.

Re: Windows 7 Sound Stutter Solution - Fixed my sound issues.

I tried the driver by danialK. I don't get the screech of death anymore... It just stops working. I play a song in media player, and tab out to surf the web and in less than 2 minutes my audio stops. It also installed all of creatives programs that I didn't really want running. I like a very minimal OS and overhead.

I wish I could just listen to music, but that is **bleep**ed. If I go back to XP then I lose media center, which is what my computer is geared toward.
