A CHALLENGE TO THE MASSES

[ Edited ]
Challenge anyone to find a PCI sound card manufacturer with fully working Vista drivers. Find any with ANY Vista drivers. Onboard of course does not count as it is not technically a PCI card.

I have already some info here:
M-Audio
Hercules (no mention of support ANYWHERE from what I have found)
search Vista from C-Media (no results)
No results here
Audiotrak's support forum
Turtle Beach

Re: A CHALLENGE TO THE MASSES

So it is the PCI bus that is causing the problem?  I wonder if my AWE32 EISA soundblaster is supported then.

I don't think that it is the PCI bus causing the issue, but the fact that Vista is so new that even if drivers were created, there's a good chance that they would be buggy beyond belief right now.

Re: A CHALLENGE TO THE MASSES

Vista is not that new to developers.  There are thousands of hardware and software developers that have been working for years to make sure their products would be Vista compatible.  3rd party development for this OS did not start yesterday.

This difference is that Creative was thrown for a loop because of their specific piece of DirectX was changed significantly however I feel there was warning that Creative could have come up with a solution.  If MS had changed the display portion of DirectX I bet Nvidia and ATI would have been on it immediately.

Cant really class MOTU Audio interface products (starting at around £800) as normal sound cards though?

Re: A CHALLENGE TO THE MASSES

Well, I think we need to update the rules here. It has to pertain to the Americas. European sound cards don't really affect us here ;-). Also, let's go with any internal add-on devices. I'm sure that you will be able to find more stuff this way.

As for that "sound card" you posted about, it's $1800. I think if the X-Fi cost that much, we WOULD have more to complain about with no drivers.

Re: A CHALLENGE TO THE MASSES

I hate to tell you this, but on-board sound is PCI. It's just wired directly to the bus instead of on a slot card.
