I'm posting to get some anecdotal evidence on how others are faring with Vent in Vista. Specifically, I'd be curious to hear whether X-Fi drivers are any better than Audigy 2 drivers.
Running Vista64 and an Audigy 2 ZS Gamer, with both the "Audigy 2 released-but-still-beta" (grrr) drivers and, as a separate test, the "X-Fi-packaged Audigy 2 drivers we didn't tell you about but that you can unpack manually", I have seen Vent Setup crash. It's very reproducible, thusly:
- Opening Vent Setup when not connected to the server appears to work
- Opening Vent Setup a second time may crash
- Opening Vent Setup when connected to a server will crash
- Opening Vent Setup while holding the Ctrl key down when connected to a server, to bypass Vent's use of the driver's mixer feature, may or may not crash. I've had it work, and I've had it crash.
Needless to say, this is putting a serious crimp on my gaming enjoyment. Alternatives shall be pondered in another post - for this one, please let me know: How's Vent Setup working for you? And what version of Vista / Creative card are you using?
Thanks!
