DTS/ Dolby Digital in X-Fi (100% Working)

Here it is how to to get back Dolby Digital & DTS decoding back at driver level:

1. Download & install latest Creative X-Fi drivers of 30th May, 2007.

2. Download the original Dell driver package Dell R144728  audio driver and unzip the contents.

3. Ensure that hidden & system files are visible and you have administrator rights to perform this operation.

4. Overwrite  the CTAC32k.sys present in "x:\Windows\System32\Drivers\ " with the following file:

For 32bit Vista use: "x:\Dell\Drivers\R144728\Drivers\WDM\win2k_xp\i386"

For 64bit Vista use: "x:\Dell\Drivers\R144728\Drivers\WDM\win2k_xp\amd64"

(x=default drive)

5. Restart your PC and open the Creative Audio Console. Click the "Decoder" tab and select "Use Built-In Decoder."

I confirm that this trick works for both versions of Vista, and with the new Creative drivers of 30th May.

It would be nice if Creative release them as will as drivers for DVD Audio in due course.

No wonder against all odds, Vista audio engine is faster and sounds much better than XP, atleast in the case while playing CD Audio / MP3/ 24bit WMA loseless audio.

Delighted to see my X-Fi back into life!!:

Re: DTS/ Dolby Digital in X-Fi (100% Working)

I have the X-Fi Fatality1 Champion Series and the Decoder tab does not exist when applying these changes. I have moved the file specified in this thread and also the DLL specified in the link from Dells driver but still no good that tab never shows up.

It should work.

You don't have to move or copy any DLL files for this operation.

Just overwrite the files exactly as indicated with Windows Explorer running with System Admin. rights.

Just uninstall all creative drivers, then install the X-Fi Vista CD, then the driver update, and lastly the Dell trick. PC has to be rebooted whenever requested.

The latest PowerDVD supports DVD-A
Don't try to install Creative's DVD player. It's not Vista supported and will BSOD most probably.

Re: DTS/ Dolby Digital in X-Fi (100% Working)

Hello DriverExpires,

I am aware of it. Even PowerDVD 6.0 supports DVD-A.

However, is there any trick to get Creative DVD Player working in the x64 bit Vista?

Any workaround to convert "ctdvda2k.sys" (The Creative DVD-A driver) to a 64bit driver?

DVD-Audio player can be installed from YouPPax, but does not work presently as driver does not support x64 bit Vista.
