Re: SB Live! series Vista Support Pack, including drivers and applications (11/16)

This works SO GOOD I made a test file with media encoder and tried to make the sound crackle, skip, and pop or hiss with the piano thing and while playing a song on winamp and tried to crash it with the sound icon clicking it with my mouse like a insane fool.
It is a headache but a true proof that it works, while encoding live.
Great job.

Play this file in winamp I guess just drag the link into the winamp list.

Thanks

Re: SB Live! series Vista Support Pack, including drivers and applications (11/16)

Hey I stayed up late  last night testing this driver.
I hate to say this, and hoped i wouldn't have to, but I still have issues with the sound cracking, particularly in the right side.

I disabled all the cmss and enhancements too.

I notice it when using Youtube.

I tried to get rid of everything and just install WDM but still the cracking.

The LiveDrvUni-Pack(ENG) driver dont do this.

Is there any possibility of getting the bass treble adjusters to work on the LiveDrvUni-Pack?

Can I copy some .reg and creative files from your driver to my system to get it to work?

I think the LIVE/AUDIGY is a bad mix, I still see the 24 bit options in the advanced playback.

The LiveDrvUni-Pack doesnt list any 24bit options, and has very stable and non cracking, ever.

A test to see what I'm talking about is to click the volume adjuster, very fast repeatedly.

Do the same with the advanced playback test.
I get the cracking noise.

here listen, what is that poping splitting noise?

And please, I do apreciate your work, but "yes men" get you nowhere, I am doing my best to help you understand my problem, not that your work is no good.

Here's the same test, but with the  LiveDrvUni-Pack 2002 driver.

Notice no splitting or cracking?

The distortion, I'll call it, happens randomly and certain media makes it crackle everytime, like youtube.
But not with the 2002 driver

Re: SB Live! series Vista Support Pack, including drivers and applications (11/16)

Are you using Sound Recorder?

This application has issues with Creative DSP-based cards (Live!, Audigy and X-Fi) when using newer drivers (with OpenAL support).

You must reduce the What U Hear and Wave volumes to stop these crackling sounds.

Readme from Audigy/X-Fi driver:

2.   AUDIO RECORDING
    ---------------

When playing back recording, you might hear distortion in the audio. If
EAX was enabled during the recording, you might also hear 'popping' noises.
To resolve these issues, reduce the recording volume level of your source
before recording either through the Vista Volume Panel or Creative Console
    Launcher.
    Do the following:
    For Vista Volume Panel
    1) Right-click the Volume icon on the taskbar, and select Recording
       Devices.
    2) Double-click your recording source.
    3) In the dialog box that appears, click the Levels tab.
    4) Drag the slider to the desired level.
    5) Click the OK button.

It does not happen with the 2002 driver because the driver has changed the way the audio device is "opened" for playing.

Try to set What U Hear level to to 16 and Wave to 50, it should fix the issues for sound Recorder.

Creative Smart Recorder (for Vista) is not affected by this issue and can record audio at a higher volume level.

Fortunately, this isn't driver related.

Re: SB Live! series Vista Support Pack, including drivers and applications (11/16)

I use Windows Media Encoder.
The cracking is the reason why I dont use the new drivers.
Also I record the sounds as I hear them, this distortion is not the result of the recording.
Please, what do I need to make the bass treble sliders work?
is there a .dat file or what?
Is there any possiblity you can tweak the 2002 driver to be Vista compatible?

I'm sorry, but there is nothing I can do. Did you try to change the speaker setup to 2.1, 4.1 or 5.1?

These 2002 drivers are way outdated and does not follow the new Creative driver series (supporting Audio Console / OpenAL), which means you can't swap files between these versions.

If I'm not mistaken, all unified drivers store hardware configurations in a database file, try to do some research under XP.

My old Live! Value (4.1) worked perfectly with these drivers, so am done here.

Just did and shared this for fun, I'm not even going to use this card in Vista.

Re: SB Live! series Vista Support Pack, including drivers and applications (11/16)

Ok I guess I'm in the minority.
Although the 2002 driver is old as the hills, it remains the"best sounding"
but you have come the  closest I seen, and for the average user, this is quite acceptable.
Can you tell me what I need to make my own driver?
any tools or compilers I need?
maybe a site explaining it?
thanks so much
